Icy conditions frustrate Glover

Port Vale manager Dean Glover has said he is frustrated with the disruptions being caused to the Valiants' training sessions because of the cold weather.

The Burslem club have been training in local sports centres and have used the artificial facilities at Nantwich Town.

Glover told BBC Radio Stoke: "We don't have the luxury of our own indoor facilities, so we are scraping around.

"The help of Nantwich Town has been a Godsend, but we are improvising as best as we can."

Glover lost the services of Gareth Owen on Monday when the central defender's loan spell was ended by his parent-club Stockport County.

And the Vale boss said he has now turned his attentions to securing the futures of other loanees, Lee Collins and Dave Brammer.

"I'm just hoping that we can entice them to stay at the club, preferably until the end of the season," said Glover.

"We are trying to get players like them on loan and I'm hoping that clubs don't ask for big chunks of wages to be paid.

"But I do appreciate that with the way things are at the minute, most clubs have got their own financial problems," he added.

The amount of activity Glover can have in the transfer market may depend on the future striker Luke Rodgers.

Rodgers has been on loan with League One side Yeovil Town and Glover admits having Rodgers off the wage bill would allow him to bring players into Vale Park.

"Luke is still our player and his contract is up in the summer," said Glover.

"But with him being at Yeovil I can get other players into the club because I can use his wages to endorse that.

"Over the next few days we should know if Yeovil want to keep him."
