Simon Richman scored his third goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 win
Port Vale midfielder Simon Richman hopes he has given manager Dean Glover a selection headache after scoring the winning goal against Grimsby.
The youngster, left out after eight consecutive starts, came off the bench to net an 88th-minute winner in the 2-1 victory against the Mariners.
Richman told BBC Radio Stoke: "It was a great feeling to score the winner.
"I was gutted to be dropped in the first place, but the best way to show the manager is to come on and score."
Vale boss Glover has strengthened his midfield in the past month by signing the experienced trio of Dave Brammer, Scott Brown and Neil McKenzie on loan.
Richman hopes the competition for places will benefit the team, and does not think it will restrict his first team opportunities.
"It is tough, but it will benefit us," he said. "We can learn off the experienced players and, for likes of me and Ross Davidson, it can help us to improve our own games."
