Port Vale defender George Pilkington reckons that his team-mates are playing for their careers as well as points as they battle to avoid relegation. Pilkington told BBC Radio Stoke: "You worry that you will be told that you are out of a job and we could be faced with that situation in a few months.
"Things tend to get sorted out later rather than sooner as you wait for the club to produce something."
Rugeley-born Pilkington's contract at Vale Park expires in the summer.
It has been a turbulent season for the 26-year-old former Exeter City man who was relieved of the captain's armband following the arrival of manager Lee Sinnott.
Since Sinnott arrived in Burslem in November, Vale have picked up just 10 points and are now 14 points from safety at the bottom of League One.
But Pilkington insists: "We've still got something to play for and obviously we will go out to try and win every game.
"We can't blame luck for the way the season has gone. We've just not been good enough."
