Port Vale administrator Bob Young fears football may not be played at Vale Park next season if a mystery bidder is allowed to take over the struggling club.

Young spoke at a fans' forum on Monday night to discuss the future of the troubled club with the identities of four of the five takeover bids now known

The other bidder has remained anonymous, fuelling speculation that it is from the Icelandic businessmen in charge of local rivals Stoke City.

That has led to fears of a groundshare at the Britannia Stadium with Vale Park being sold off and the two clubs eventually merging, although Port Vale have denied the story.

Young refused to confirm or deny the suggestion, explaining he is unable to name the mystery bidder for legal reasons.

But he admitted that if the anonymous bid succeeded, he fears for the future of Vale Park.

He added: "The other bids are what I would call 'genuine' offers which would keep football at Vale Park.

"It is true to say that the anonymous bidder will not want football to continue at Vale Park.

"In pure financial terms the mystery bid is the highest offer so in those terms it would be the preferred bid."

Young revealed that he has written to Football League chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney for clarification as he believes the nature of the unnamed bid could breach League rules.

Whether the Football League give their approval to the bid or not, Young admitted he is likely to then need to go to the courts for instructions as to the next stage of the process.

Port Vale fans have reacted angrily to the rumours of a possible merger, with supporters organising a protest march to take place before Saturday's home clash with Luton Town.
