Plymouth boss Paul Mariner keen to keep Ashley Barnes

Plymouth will only consider selling highly-rated striker Ashley Barnes if they receive a "very good offer", boss Paul Mariner insists.

Barnes, 20, has been in impressive form on loan at Brighton, hitting four goals in seven games.

Mariner said: "It would have to be a very good offer to take him away from us, because we don't want him to go.

"I want to work with him more because I haven't had much time to," added the Plymouth boss.

Barnes, who has only made nine appearances for the Pilgrims this term, spent a loan spell with Torquay United earlier in the season.

Mariner also revealed that unattached Nigerian striker Jeremiah Ani is continuing a trial spell at Home Park following Monday's reserve game with Reading.

The 25-year-old is currently training with Plymouth's first-team squad.

Mariner said: "We brought him back to have a look at him."

"It's always very difficult for people to show what they can do because it's a completely foreign environment, but he's got the attributes to be a player."
