Gary Sawyer should be given another opportunity to impress Bristol City in Sunday's season finale at Blackpool.
The 24-year-old left-back, who is on loan from relegated Plymouth, made his debut in the 2-1 win over Derby on Saturday - a month after joining.
City caretaker manager Keith Millen told BBC Radio Bristol: "He did really well and has another game to impress.
"Then I'll sit down with the manager [Steve Coppell] and discuss what we're going to do in the summer."
He continued: "Gary has played 30-odd games in the Championship for Plymouth so we knew he was good enough."
Sawyer, who has rejected the offer of a new contract with Plymouth, had to bide his time to earn a first-team chance at Ashton Gate but came in for the injured Liam Fontaine against Derby.
"When we first brought him in we were desperately short of defenders but he's had to be patient," added Millen. "He's worked hard in training and he's done well in the reserves - so I had no worries about playing him."
