Todd wants to build a side that will play its way into the Premier League

Plymouth Argyle director Keith Todd has come out in support of the club's under-fire manager, Paul Sturrock, and promised the board will be patient.

The Pilgrims have taken just two points from their first six games this season, and have only won four matches in 2009.

Todd told BBC Radio Devon: "Paul is a great manager - we've seen that and we've experienced that for ourselves."

"We're all behind Paul and we're doing everything we can to make Plymouth a successful club," he added.

Todd was part of the foreign-led consortium that gained control of the Pilgrims in July.

The new board immediately announced plans to take Plymouth into the Premier League within five years.

And despite being 22nd in the Championship at present, Todd is extolling the benefits of letting the team develop.

"Let's all be patient," he said. "We're trying to put a footballing team together here, one that plays its way into the Premier League.

"We've said right from the beginning it'll take a bit of time, but we're patient businessmen."
