Plymouth Argyle have overspent their transfer budget, according to manager Paul Sturrock.

He was told the news at a board meeting earlier this week and says he will have to get rid of players before bringing in any new faces to Home Park.

"We're over budget by a lot," he told BBC Spotlight.

"It's up to me to move some players on or put some people out on loan. Certain players will have to move in order to bring the budget back in line."

Sturrock spent a club record �750,000 on midfielder Simon Walton from QPR in the summer, but the 20-year-old has fallen out of favour in the past few weeks and is unlikely to feature against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

He first broke the club record fee in January for striker Steve MacLean, but the �500,000 former Cardiff City man has scored just three league goals for the club and has not featured in the first team for almost a month.

The club have also signed former Belgium international Emile Mpenza on a year-long deal with the 30-year-old reported to be on �10,000 per week, making him the highest paid player in the club's history.
