Peterborough United still need time to gel after a summer of rebuilding, says striker Craig Mickail-Smith
Posh, who brought in nine new players during the summer beat Huddersfield 4-2 at London Road on Saturday.
Mackail-Smith told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's a young team, a new team and we're going to need time to bed and gel.
"We've learned from the Bournemouth defeat and hopefully we can move on and finish top of this league."
Posh lost 5-1 at Bournemouth in their opening away match, but bounced back against Huddersfield.
They went 2-0 down before fighting back with goals from George Boyd, Craig Mackail-Smith and a brace from Aaron Mclean.
"Boyd's goal was massive for us as going in at half-time 2-0 down would have been a mountain to climb," Mackail-Smith said.
"But we scored and were able to come out in the second half and get at them."
Cardiff make the trip to London Road on Tuesday in the second round of the League Cup.
Boss Gary Johnson will pick a strong side with Mackail-Smith likely to continue up front with Aaron Mclean.
Tommy Rowe could start at left-back having replaced Seth Nana Ofori-Twumasi during Saturday's match.
