Ferguson's side are still yet to win away in the Championship this season
Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson has said that defeats to the likes of Newcastle will have no bearing on Posh's fight against relegation.
Ferguson's side lost 3-1 at St James' Park on Saturday to slip to the bottom of the Championship table.
"When you play the likes of Barnsley and Plymouth at home you have to get the right results," Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
"If you get a result at Newcastle it's a bonus."
Ferguson added: "We don't want to be back playing the teams we played last season [in League One], but we've got to be able to handle playing at places like St James' Park.
"We just don't give ourselves a chance and we spoke at length about keeping the ball, but conceded two sloppy goals."
Ferguson handed Ryan Bennett a first start for the club alongside Craig Morgan in the heart of the defence, but, despite seeing his side concede three goals, the Posh boss had no complaints with the Grimsby loanee.
"The second goal aside, when he was marking Andy Carroll, he was outstanding and we've got a right player on our hands," said the former Wrexham midfielder.
"He's really mature for his age and I like his manner. He has the right temperament."
