Peterborough United on-loan defender Ryan Bennett says he has his heart set on a permanent move to London Road.
The 19-year-old has made the short-term switch from Grimsby Town until November and played in a 4-0 friendly defeat to Histon on Wednesday.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Obviously everyone wants to play as high as they can and this was the next step for me.
"Hopefully we'll get something sorted and I'll sign for the long term."
Posh boss Darren Ferguson had offers for the Mariners' captain rejected in the summer and Bennett is happy to have finally put on a Posh shirt.
"There was a lot of talk about it, but it came out of the blue. Once I heard about it I was keen to come to the club," he said.

"It's been a long time coming. To come here and play and get to know the young lads was a nice feeling."
Bennett could find himself in Ferguson's starting line-up with centre-half Gabby Zakuani an injury doubt for the Barnsley game on Saturday.
