Bennett has been attracting scouts from Premier League clubs
Grimsby Town have opened talks with captain Ryan Bennett about a new deal.
The England Under-18 defender's contract expires at the end of next season and the club are keen to reward his progress this term.
Grimsby manager Mike Newell told BBC Radio Humberside: "We've started talking to Ryan. We think he's done really and is worth a new deal."
The 18-year-old centre back has been virtually an ever-present this season, missing only one league game so far.
Newell said he hoped they were close to agreeing terms: "I think so.
"I leave all that to Ian Fleming [Grimsby's chief executive] and John Fenty [Grimsby's chairman] but Ryan's not the type who's going to make any sort of fuss."
Bennett made his league debut with the Mariners in April 2007 and represented England at Under-18 level against Austria exactly a year later.
