Ferguson targets Posh winning run

Ferguson has challenged his players to push up the league

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has said his side must build on their point at Bristol City over the next week.

Posh, who are 22nd in the Championship, travel to Doncaster on Tuesday before consecutive home matches against Scunthorpe and Barnsley.

Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We've got a good base to work from following the international break and the next three matches are huge.

"It's three games against teams around us and they're winnable games."

Posh have taken just one point from their last four matches and desperately need a winning run to push them up the table.

"Anyone that goes on a decent run will move up the league quickly and likewise anyone who goes on a bad run will slip down the league quickly," Ferguson said.

Doncaster are three points ahead of Posh in the table and have not won a match since August.

Posh are yet to win away, but Ferguson feels they have a good chance to rectify the situation at the Keepmoat.

"Doncaster are a good football team so it should be a good football match, but we're certainly hoping to get a win," he said.

"They've got some good strikers with Billy Sharp and James Hayter so we'll have to be at our best if we're going to keep a clean sheet."

Midfielder Paul Coutts remains out with a broken metatarsal, but Ferguson has no further injury concerns.

Chris Whelpdale looks set to continue at right back with Danny Rose alongside Toumani Diagouraga in centre midfield.
