Peterborough United first-choice keeper Joe Lewis said the goals conceded by James McKeown against Nottingham Forest will improve his game in the long run.
McKeown, 20, came on for only his second appearance after Lewis suffered concussion but conceded two soft goals.
Lewis told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "He was disappointed for a couple of days after the game.
"I just said to him that looking back he'll see it as one of the best experiences he could have had."
McKeown joined Posh from Walsall in 2007 and has spent time on loan with Kettering and Worcester in previous seasons.
Posh took a 1-0 lead against Forest before Radoslaw Majewski found the net with a cross shot and Paul Anderson tapped home from close range.
"It doesn't always go well, it doesn't always go as planned and you just have to deal with it," Lewis said.
Posh had been without a goalkeeping coach following the departure of Andy Dibble and prior to the arrival of Darren Ward on Monday so Lewis and McKeown spent the first week of the international break training with Manchester United.
"It's not a million miles away from what we do, but it was great to train with the likes of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Edwin van der Sar," he said.
"Giggs is a really special player, his fitness levels are still there and in terms of quality he's the best player I've ever seen."
