Midfielder aiming for Posh starts

Peterborough United midfielder Lee Frecklington says he is determined to make the most of Paul Coutts' recent metatarsal injury.

Frecklington and Dean Keates are the men in the frame to fill in for Coutts who has a broken foot.

The 24-year-old told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Four people for two positions now becomes three for two.

"It gives me a better chance of getting into the starting line-up and it's up to me to cement that place."

Frecklington has been in and out of the starting XI for Posh who have only won one league game so far.

The former Lincoln City player believes they have been too wasteful in front of goal.

He said: "The difference is we don't seem to be scoring the chances we get. At this level the teams we come up against only need one or two chances.

"At the moment we need to make three, four or five chances to score a goal and I think against decent teams you're not always going to be able to score those chances."

With finding the net proving a problem for Posh, Frecklington feels he can do his part for the goal tally after scoring 21 times in 97 starts for Lincoln.

"I've had a few chances," he said. "And on other occasions I could probably have scored a few more than I have so far.

"As long as I get the chances then I will start to convert them."

Frecklington has started eight matches for Posh this season, whilst Coutts has started seven.

The Scottish Under-21 international is likely to be out for around a month and has pulled out of the squad to face Belarus.

Elsewhere this weekend, Craig Morgan is on full international duty with the Wales squad ahead of their World Cup qualifying matches against Finland and Liechtenstein.

Joe Lewis misses out on a place in the England Under-21 squad for their Euro qualifer against Macedonia in Coventry, but Tottenham loanee Danny Rose is included.
