Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has said the club could still make further signings.
Romone McCrae became the latest new arrival at London Road on Monday.
Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "[Manager] Darren Ferguson, the chairman and I met on Saturday and tried to make a late bid for a player.
"It didn't work out, but if it happens again and Darren wants to make another addition I'm sure [chairman] Darragh MacAnthony will back him."
Many Posh fans still expect the club to add to their forward options before the start of the season.
Aaron Mclean and Craig Mackail-Smith remain the only senior strikers at London Road.
Meanwhile, Fry has confirmed that Torquay have had offers accepted for defender Kieran Charnock and and striker Scott Rendell.
"The club have accepted an offer for Charnock and he's in discussions for a permanent move," he said.
"We've also agreed for Scott Rendell to move on a year's loan."
