No wholesale changes - Ferguson

Ferguson has won 54 games over the last two seasons

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson is looking to keep the core of his promotion-winning team together next season.

Posh sealed promotion from League One, their second successive elevation, thanks to a 1-0 win over Colchester.

Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We'll cope in the Championship but I'm not going to make any rash statements.

"I think we're going to have to add to the squad but it's only fair to give these lads a chance."

Ferguson has claimed remarkable back-to-back promotions for Peterborough in his first two full seasons in charge, using young players with little Football League experience.

Star players George Boyd, Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron Maclean were all signed from non-league clubs.

Ferguson added: "They've still got points to prove. These lads have proved a lot of people wrong. I think that's what drives them on. They deserve it.

"From a personal point of view it's one of the best days of my life. It's a great day and I'm a proud man but it's not sunk in yet."

The man who got the goal that puts Posh on the next rung of the football ladder was Charlie Lee.

The 22-year-old has played at full-back, centre-half and midfield this campaign and has epitomised Posh's spirit throughout. The former Tottenham trainee is adamant they will have no problem next season.

He said: "We've played a few Championship teams down the years and we've gone out against them thinking we can beat them.

"Obviously we know it's a high step up and we're still young. We've just got to enjoy it next year and go into every game with confidence."
