Ferguson calls for fans' patience

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has called on fans to be patient with his side as they look to win promotion from League One.

Posh were not at their best as they overcame Walsall 1-0 on Saturday and attracted some criticism from the London Road faithful.

Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I think the fans have got to be a little bit more patient.

"I don't know what football they were used to before I arrived."

Posh are up to fourth in League One following Saturday's win and can close the gap on second place MK Dons with a win over their local rivals on Tuesday night.

"We have a chance of going a point behind the second team in the League One, when I arrived we were 10th in League Two," Ferguson said.

"So I'm asking for a bit more patience, if they're going to have a go at anyone, have a go at me."

Chris Whelpdale scored the only goal of the game as Posh claimed a narrow win over the Saddlers.

Darren Ferguson's side have now lost just one league match since late August.

Tuesday's home match with the MK Dons is being billed as a 'six-pointer', but Ferguson wants his side to concentrate on looking after themselves.

"I've said to the players, let's not worry about anyone else and if we win enough games we'll go up," he said.
