Lambert's former clubs include Stockport, Rochdale and Macclesfield
Peterborough director of football Barry Fry says he would be interested in Bristol Rovers striker Rickie Lambert if Rovers were prepared to sell.
The 26-year-old has netted 18 times for Rovers in League One this season.
Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We didn't make a bid but obviously Lambert's a player every team would be interested in.
"We've been told by Bristol Rovers he's not available at any price and we understand that."
Fry has made it clear Posh are looking to bolster their attacking options but says they have failed to agree terms with a Premier League target.
"Despite agreeing everything with a Premier League club, we're finding it hard to get the player and agent to agree a move to us," he said.
"If [our] manager can't get the people he's identified, then we won't be going and getting anybody, we'll just go with what we've got."
Posh are currently unbeaten in 17 league games, with the current strike partnership of Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron Mclean scoring 21 goals between them.
