Oxford chairman back Chris Wilder transfer policy

Chris Wilder
Wilder has insisted he wanted to freshen his squad in January

Oxford chairman Kelvin Thomas has urged fans to back Chris Wilder's judgement in the transfer market after he allowed Luke Foster to talk to other clubs.

Manager Wilder has brought in three fresh faces during the January window, and also allowed key defender Foster to talk to league rivals Cambridge.

But Thomas told BBC Oxford: "Chris deserves our trust.

"He will make sure his squad is right and the players in the squad are right. He isn't afraid to make big decisions."

Foster, 24, has been one of Oxford's most consistent performers since arriving in 2007.

Wilder told BBC Oxford: "I always tell the players when somebody makes an enquiry and then leave it up to the player.

"We weren't going to extend Luke's contract after he summer. He wanted that option to pursue it and he has done that. He has the opportunity to speak to clubs."
