Midfielder Declan Benjamin has been released by Oxford United after his scholarship deal expired at the club.
U's assistant manager Mickey Lewis said: "With such strength in depth in the squad we feel his chances of first team football are limited here.
"We thank him for his efforts. He is a super lad and we have enjoyed working with him."
Lewis added: "As with all the young local lads, we will keep an eye on Declan's progress."
The 18-year-old, who has spent time on loan at Banbury United, had been offered an extended deal until Christmas after a broken leg limited his chances towards the end of his scholarship.
He featured twice from the bench for Oxford in the 2007/08 season.
