Wilder signs new Oxford contract

Oxford boss Chris Wilder has signed a new three-year deal with United after pledging his future to the club.

He moved to end speculation linking him with a move away after Burton failed in an approach for him on Thursday.

The ex-Halifax boss had been on a rolling contract with the U's since he took over in December.

He told BBC Oxford: "After what happened at the back end of last season [almost reaching the play-offs] we have seen what can be done at Oxford."

He added: "I have never hid that I want to manage in the Football League. There's always been that attraction and I want to do it with this football club."

I am delighted that he has committed his future to the club and look forward to concentrating on bringing the players that we would like to the football club

Wilder turned Oxford's form around after taking over in December, with United in the bottom half of the Blue Square Premier.

A run of only three league defeats in 23 games saw the U's only miss out on a play-off place because of a controversial points deduction for fielding an unregistered player.

Oxford chairman Kelvin Thomas said: "My relationship with Chris is very good and I did discuss Burton's request with him.

"I am delighted that he has committed his future to the club and look forward to concentrating on bringing the players that we would like to the football club."
