Injured Quinn hopes to earn deal

Barry Quinn
The former Coventry player is hoping he can extend his stay at Oxford

Injured Oxford United defender Barry Quinn has said he is hoping his side make the play-offs so he can prove his worth to manager Chris Wilder.

Quinn's contract expires at the end of the season and he has not played so far in 2009 due to a serious ankle injury.

"The fact that the injury came before the new manager [arrived] was really disappointing," he told BBC Oxford.

"He hasn't even seen me play but I am hoping to be training in the next couple of weeks and go from there."

Oxford are six points off a play-off spot with nine league games left.

And the 29-year-old Irishman believes he is recovering well from his ankle injury.

"It feels good," he said. "And I have been running on it for a couple of weeks."
