Wilmott has been beset by injuries at Oxford

Oxford United defender Chris Wilmott has backed his team-mates to respond after a disappointing 2-0 defeat by play-off rivals Torquay on Saturday.

The defeat was United's first in the league in 2009, and Wilmott told BBC Oxford they can put things right.

"We have been on a great run and it has come to an end. We have to put that behind us now," said Wilmott.

"We need to get back to winning ways quickly and maintain it as long as possible to stay in contention."
