Oxford's Billy Turley says the Football Conference is right to examine its procedures over player registration.
Oxford are among four clubs who have been deducted points for fielding unregistered players and Turley says the Conference need to take stock.
"If it was just an isolated case you would think there was a problem our end," the keeper, 35, told BBC Oxford.
"There have been four teams that have been done. It's a strange situation and one that needs looking at."
The Football Conference has announced it is to hold an internal review into its administrative procedures in the wake of the points deductions.
The sub-committee will report back with its findings to the Conference's board at the end of February.
United will decide on Monday whether to appeal their five-point deduction, which has hit their play-off hopes.
