Oxford to accept points deduction

Oxford United

Oxford United have decided not to appeal against a five-point deduction by the Football Conference for fielding an unregistered player.

Midfielder Eddie Hutchinson played for 13 matches at the start of the Blue Square Premier season before the clerical error came to light.

The deduction will see Oxford's points total cut to 40, six points outside the play-off places.

However, they will stay in ninth place in the league table.

Bognor Regis Town have announced they will not be contesting their punishment, but Crawley Town will appeal against punishment for a similar offence.

Last week, the Football Conference announced it would hold an internal review into its administrative procedures in the wake of the affair.
