Oxford United have missed out on signing two Football League players, BBC Oxford understands.
Aldershot midfielder Lewis Chalmers and Rochdale striker Jon Shaw have both elected to join Crawley Town.
U's manager Chris Wilder told BBC Oxford he had been left disappointed after showing an interest in Shaw.
"It is unfortunate we couldn't do anything, he was a player we would have liked to have come but it wasn't to be so we move on," he said.
Wilder is expected to do more business in the January transfer window and has said he would like to reinforce his strikeforce.
"We have Ricky [Sappleton] up front and we've got [James] Constable, who has been outstanding.
"We would like to see Yemi [Odubade] back to give us some competition up there as we are light on a couple of forward positions."
