Carruthers was on the bench for the game against Crawley

Oxford United defender Chris Carruthers is off the transfer list - less than a fortnight after he went on.

The full-back had been made available despite manager Darren Patterson insisting he did not want him to leave and only wanted a reaction.

Carruthers, 25, only joined the U's in the summer after leaving Bristol Rovers and has played nine times this season.

It is also understood that fellow defender Matt Day is now likely to stay at the Kassam Stadium.

It is understood Day's loan move to Bognor stalled over whether or not he could play in cup matches for the South Coast side.

Patterson told the club website: "We put [Carruthers] on the list and it came as a bit of a shock to him, but he came into me and demanded he be taken off the list. That was exactly the reaction we needed from him.

"He has been excellent in training and deserves his chance."
