Oxford United defender Matt Day has signed a new 12-month contract after being transfer-listed at the Kassam Stadium at the end of last season.

The 21-year-old has made more than 70 appearances for Oxford since joining from Portsmouth two years ago.

Day told BBC Oxford he now wants to secure the right-back position: "For a while last season I was right-back, left back, midfield, even sub goalie.

"But I was best when I had a run at right-back and we won nine out of 11."

Meanwhile Oxford's management are still working on trying to attract new players to the club, although they now concede there may not be any new signings until after the squad returns for pre-season training on Monday.
