| Monday, 29 April, 2002, 16:03 GMT 17:03 UK Brooks fears allayed Young Oxford United striker Jamie Brooks is on the road to recovery after being struck down by a mystery virus. Brooks was voted Oxford's young player of the year, players' player of the year, sports writers' player of the year and supporters' player of the year. He bagged 10 goals in a successful season at the Kassam Stadium - but was taken ill early on Saturday night and underwent a series of hospital. His condition has improved after the tests showed that the virus was not as serious as first feared. U's boss Ian Atkins told the club's website: "We found out he had been taken to hospital and we have been in touch with Jamie and his family to check the situation. "Luckily all the signs are that Jamie will be okay and will make a quick recovery." |
