Oldham Athletic suffer new Failsworth stadium setback

Boundary Park
Oldham first began playing at Boundary Park in 1906

Oldham Athletic's bid for a new stadium has suffered a setback after proposed plans to move to Failsworth were rejected by the Charity Commission.

The Commission stated it was "not satisfied" that the proposed swap was in the interests of the charity.

A club statement said: "Having waited patiently for many months we are not only shocked by this outcome, but bitterly disappointed."

The Latics had hoped to build a 12,000 all-seater stadium on the land.

The statement added: "Our objective has always been, and remains, to provide a solution to the long term future of OAFC.

We need to carefully consider how we arrived at this wholly unsatisfactory position and what the next steps will be

"Boundary Park cannot provide that and it would appear that yet another genuine opportunity to cement that future has passed Oldham by.

"The outcome at this time is that, on the basis of the information supplied by OMBC within the application, the charity commission is not satisfied that sufficient information has been provided to enable the commission to exercise their power and permit the transfer to proceed.

"We need to carefully consider how we arrived at this wholly unsatisfactory position and what the next steps will be."
