Oldham Athletic have ruled out caretaker manager Martin Gray becoming the new boss at Boundary Park.
Gray, 38, was one of 10 shortlisted candidates interviewed last week but has been informed he was unsuccessful and has left the League One club.
The former Darlington caretaker boss had been at the helm since Dave Penney's departure last month.
The club have identified a new manager but have announced he will not be unveiled until next week.
"Holidays have caused the delay with our preferred man out of the country," chief executive Alan Hardy told the club's official website.
Gray, who still had 12 months left on his contract as assistant boss, was praised by Hardy.
"Martin has worked tirelessly throughout his short time with us, and I know he was keen on the manager's role.
"Unfortunately he has not been successful but I would like to pay tribute to him and thank him for his efforts."
