New Oldham boss Joe Royle has said he wants to bring in some new players to help seal a League One play-off place.

The former Manchester City and Everton manager was unveiled today as John Sheridan's successor until the end of the season.

The 59-year-old told BBC Radio Manchester: "I'd like to get a couple in to see if we can spice things up.

"It is difficult but we are up there and the great thing is we're not far behind the play-offs."

He added: "If we beat Tranmere and other things go our way, we can go back into the play-off places this weekend so, you know, there is a chance.

"That little chance of Wembley at the end intrigues me. I would love to go back there, I'd love to take Oldham back there.

"I've missed Saturdays. I work Saturdays for Sky television; I've been commentating on games and they've been very good to me.

"I've had to cancel one for this weekend actually but it was nice to do so. I still miss dugout fever. You can't beat that buzz."
