Notts County have completed the signing of former Preston North End defender Liam Chilvers on a two-year contract.
The 28-year-old centre-half joins on a free deal having left Preston at the end of last season.
Chilvers told BBC Radio Nottingham: "There were a few other clubs in for me but Notts County and Craig Short [manager] wanted a deal to be done.
"The club were persistent and the decision was made a lot easier as the manager made it known he wanted me."
Chilvers was a regular at Deepdale last season - until new boss Darren Ferguson was appointed in early 2010.
"Last season I played about 28 games for Preston but that was mostly before the new manager came in," he said.

"I could complain and say I didn't get a fair crack of the whip but that's football and you have to move on.
"I want to play as many games as I can and get Notts back into the Championship."
Chilvers spent time on loan with Notts when he was 19 in the 2001/02 season, scoring his first league goal during that time.
He added: "I was here nine or ten years ago and it's good to be back.
"Playing here before gave me a little bit of knowledge about the club and that helped make my decision."
Chilvers came through the youth ranks at Arsenal but failed to make the grade there and had several loan spells before joining Colchester in 2004.
He joined Preston in 2006 and went on to make 107 appearances for the club.
