Billy Davies will not compromise on Forest loan deals

Davies has guided Forest to fourth in the league despite Tuesday's setback

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies says he is still eager to bring in new faces during the emergency loan window but will not compromise on quality.

Forest conceded a 96th-minute goal as they drew with lowly Preston on Tuesday and Davies said his side looked jaded and that his squad was being stretched.

But he told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's not about bringing in loan players. The word is quality, we're after quality.

"I will not bring in players just for the sake of bringing in bodies."

The Reds were further hampered by a hamstring injury to left-back Paul Konchesky during the 2-2 draw with bottom-of-the-table North End.

Davies added that he was not yet sure of the extent of the problem but hoped it was "not too serious".

We can't get too high when we are second and too low when we are fourth

But whatever the diagnosis, Davies said he will not rush into signings and would prefer to give his younger players an opportunity.

"I would rather give Nialle Rodney, Kieron Freeman or Brendan Moloney a chance," Davies added.

"To bring in bodies is easy, but we only bring in if they are better or they can add to what we already have got.

"We are not fighting relegation, we are trying to compete with the top teams in this division.

"We'll keep asking questions, we will continue to search the marketplace and we'll see who's available.

"We have asked questions and enquired about several but we know how difficult this loan window can be."

And Davies remained adamant that he would not be fazed by his side's failure to beat his former side on Tuesday evening - despite a below-par performance.

"We can't get too high when we are second and too low when we are fourth," the Scot said.

"We're in amongst it. There will be ups and downs, there will twists and turns but with 14 games to go and one game in hand we have an opportunity."
