Marlon Harewood started his career with Forest as a 16-year-old in 1996
Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood looks set to snub his old club Nottingham Forest by signing instead for Championship leaders Wolves.
The 29-year-old, who has had just one league start since joining Villa for £4m in July 2007, has been linked with a return to his first club Forest.
But Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Harewood has had talks with the promotion favourites.
And Wolves would now like to tie a deal up before next Thursday's deadline.
"I've had a discussion with Martin O'Neill and I'm waiting to have another discussion with him," McCarthy told Wolves' club website. "I've asked him the question and we'll be speaking again over the next couple of days.
If I've got the ability to sign somebody of Marlon Harewood's ability and strengths it would be fantastic

"I want to do it but Martin and I need to speak again. "They've got a game on Sunday and we've got one tomorrow but we'll be talking at some stage. "I'm delighted with the four strikers I've got here - they're all off on international duty and potentially involved in two games - but if I've got the ability to sign somebody of Marlon Harewood's ability and strengths then it would be fantastic."
Harewood has scored 119 career goals in 416 games, having started his career at Forest, who ironically play Wolves in Saturday's bottom v top clash at the City Ground.
