Smith returned to the first team in Forest's 3-0 win at Manchester City
Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith has spoken of his relief after regaining his first-team spot under new boss Billy Davies.
Smith was left out of the side when former Reds manager Colin Calderwood signed Lee Camp.
"I've been happy with my performances throughout the season," he told BBC Radio Nottingham.
"There was no reason for me to be left out - it just proves that with the last couple of games with two clean sheets."
Smith added: "Every footballer wants to play - it's no good training every day of the week if you come to Saturday and you're not involved in the team.
"From that point of view, I'm happy to be back and glad to be playing for the new manager."
QPR keeper Lee Camp was on loan at the City Ground from 20 October until the end of 2008.
Smith, 29, who has made more than 100 appearances for Forest, signed a new two-year deal in July.
