Norwich City's Chris Martin keen to share goal burden

Norwich City's Chris Martin
Martin netted 23 times for Norwich last season in all competitions

Norwich City striker Chris Martin says his partnership with Grant Holt should not be the team's only source of goals this season.

The pair grabbed a brace each in the 4-1 defeat of Gillingham on Tuesday, but Martin is hoping for support from a few of his team-mates.

The 21-year-old told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I don't think we're going to be relied on to score.

"I think there's plenty of people that will bring goals to the team."

The duo netted 51 times between them last season in all competitions and while Martin is happy for others to chip in, he knows a similar record this term would be good news for the Canaries.

"If we can score as many goals as we did last year we know we're doing something right, especially in the Championship," he said.

"If we can spur each other on to score more goals that's only a positive for the team."

Boss Paul Lambert will have to make a decision on whether 29-year-old Holt, who is short of match-fitness, or new-boy Simeon Jackson will partner the academy product in Saturday's trip to Scunthorpe.
