Norwich City's Zak Whitbread could be 'one of the best'

Whitbread's played for Millwall before moving to Norwich City

Zak Whitbread could become one of the best defenders to have played for Norwich City, according to Canaries' reserve team manager Ian Crook.

The 26-year-old joined Norwich from Millwall in January on a two and-a-half year deal.

Whitbread is currently making his comeback from injury and played for the reserves against Peterborough.

Reserves team boss Ian Crook told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I think he'll be one of the best defenders they've had here."

The American central defender injured his calf while playing against his former club in February.

Crook said "I saw him play a year ago for Millwall on two occasions and thought he was awesome. I just think he is going to be massive for this club over the period of time he's here."

Striker Cody Macdonald also played 45 minutes in the reserves' match against Peterborough as he returns from a thigh injury.

Defender Adam Drury played for 70 minutes and Ian Crook told BBC Radio Norfolk that he is now in contention for a first team place against Swindon on Saturday.

"He's top quality, he's played at the highest level. You can certainly never question his attitude and determination. He's got a naturally fit body so I'm sure he's back in contention," Crook said.

Norwich City's goals were scored by Paul McVeigh and George Francomb.
