Butterworth spent nearly eight years with Norwich as a player
Ian Butterworth has resigned as assistant manager of Norwich City, following the appointment of Paul Lambert as manager.
Lambert was named as City's new boss on Tuesday, and it is expected Butterworth's former Norwich team-mate Ian Culverhouse will be his assistant.
Butterworth, who played 293 games for the club, took caretaker-manager duties following Bryan Gunn's sacking.
The club's sports scientist Mark Garfoot has also left Carrow Road.
He joined under Glenn Roeder in 2008.
Butterworth told the club website: "Obviously things haven't worked out in my time here under difficult circumstances, I obviously felt the new coaching team wouldn't want me hanging about.
"Therefore I have taken the decision that it's right for all parties for me to move on."
Canaries chief executive David McNally said: "We would like to place on record our sincere appreciation of the work Ian has done for the club during his time on the coaching staff and his professionalism throughout.
"We have a new first-team manager in place and he is actively restructuring his backroom team at Colney [Training Centre]."
