Butterworth scored four goals in his time with the Canaries
Norwich boss Bryan Gunn has spoken of his delight after bringing in Ian Butterworth as his assistant manager.
Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk: "It's good to have him back, we're great friends from our playing days. He's a top coach and I'll be leaning on him a lot."
Butterworth made 293 appearances in seven-and-a-half years with the Canaries, who he joined in 1986.
The new assistant manager was on the sidelines during Tuesday's 3-3 draw at Championship leaders Wolves.
