Promotion a big ask - Butterworth

Norwich assistant manager Ian Butterworth has admitted that it will be tough for City to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt.

The Canaries were relegated to League One on the final day of the season after a 4-2 defeat to Charlton.

Butterworth told BBC Radio Norfolk: "It [League One] is a tough league, the mentality's got to be strong from players, up for it all the time.

"Everyone will raise their game against Norwich, so we have to be up for it."

He added: "Norwich will still be classed as a bigger club.

"Leeds have found this out over the last couple of seasons, they didn't go straight back up, and neither did Nottingham Forest."

Butterworth captained Norwich in the early 1990s, and returned to the club to team up with his former team-mates, manager Bryan Gunn and first-team coach Ian Crook, in February.

The Canaries' board has yet to decide if the trio will remain in charge next season, but Butterworth wants the chance to restore some pride at the club.

"We've had a couple of meetings this week and it's been very positive," he said.

"When we came to the club there were one or two problems that are well documented, and were not going to be solved in two months.

"I'd like to think we're all going to be positive and make sure this football club gets back on the right track."
