Huckerby back at Norwich as fan

Darren Huckerby has returned to Norfolk after a successful summer in the USA with San Jose Earthquakes and bought himself a Norwich City season ticket.

The winger told BBC Radio Norfolk he had mixed feelings on his return for Saturday's draw with Preston.

"It's very strange, it's difficult but it was always going to happen, today's the start of a different chapter.

"I've had offers to carry on playing and I only want to play for one club, so it's pointless trying to call me."

Huckerby insists he will not be following the lead of fellow Major League Soccer star David Beckham by playing on-loan at a European club, something many fans would love to see him do at Norwich.

"I'll carry on keeping fit and getting ready for the start of our season.

"Obviously I don't want to add fuel to the fire but, there's only one club I'd ever play for and this is it, so I'll be watching for the next two or three months," he said.

After being released by Norwich manager Glenn Roeder at the end of his contract last June, Huckerby immediately joined San Jose Earthquake in the MLS.

His impact was crucial to the struggling Californian team, he scored six goals and made four assists in just 14 starts.

"If I'm going to be honest everything's worked out pretty well, it could have been very difficult going to a place where nobody knows you.

"Obviously they expected big things from me, and we did OK, so hopefully we can carry that on next season."
