Dion Dublin picked up the official Norwich City Player of the Year award

Former England international Dion Dublin has thanked Norwich City fans after he bid farewell to Carrow Road following Saturday's 3-0 win over QPR.

The defender or striker, 39, will bring his 20-year career to an end after Sunday's trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Dublin was in tears after being given a standing ovation by the club's fans following the victory over QPR.

He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I've had great fans over my career, fans like this that are very sincere."

Dublin was given player of the season awards by 10 different supporters groups at the Canaries' open day 24 hours before the game.

He continued: "All the air's been let out of the balloon, it's time to reflect and enjoy.

"There's no regrets on my decision at all, it's nice to be wanted, I know it's the right time to get out."

Dublin's played for Manchester United, Aston Villa and Coventry in the Premier League and has scored 234 goals in 742 games overall in his career.

He won four England caps under Glenn Hoddle and narrowly missed out on getting a place in the squad for the 1998 World Cup in France.

Canaries manager Glenn Roeder was part of Hoddle's coaching set-up.

He said: "The last time I saw the big man with a tear in his eye was 10 years ago when Hoddle decided he would be one of the six which hadn't made his final squad.

"But there's nothing wrong with that and it tells me he is what is - a proper man."
