Northampton Town defender John Johnson says the team have always been right behind boss Ian Sampson, even when the results were poor.
Johnson told BBC Radio Northampton: "He's supposed to be inexperienced but he's said the right things.
"The last thing we wanted was for him to go. We've made changes and we've deserved the wins, so credit to him."
The Cobblers lost five straight league games, but have recently recovered to beat Gillingham and Lincoln.
Johnson, 22, scored at Sincil Bank for the second time in two seasons to seal the win over the Imps on Tuesday night.

"I think I like this ground, but it's a great result for us," he said.
"The clean sheet is a bonus as well. Ben Tozer and Dean Beckwith are back in, so there's competition there for a strong defence."
