Cobblers' Davis relishes competition for places

We all need to add goals - Davis

Northampton Town's versatile midfielder Liam Davis says he is relishing the competition for places at the club.

The 23-year-old has been used at left-back in recent matches while Marcus Hall is out injured.

Davis told BBC Look East: "I'm not putting myself under any pressure. I think I can perform well when I'm out there and the competition is needed.

"I've slotted in at left-back, where I've played before. But I'm still trying to shoot and get crosses in."

Northampton travel to Shrewsbury in League Two on Saturday, before the trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Carling Cup third round.

"Shrewsbury will be a tough game," Davis said.

"They're top of the table but sometimes we perform better against those teams. I'm not going in with too many worries.

"Liverpool are a brilliant team to play, and it'll be a good day, but what's most important is the league."
