Northampton Town's Stephen O'Flynn eyes longer deal

New Northampton Town striker Stephen O'Flynn says he is eager to win himself a longer contract at Sixfields.

The 27-year-old Irishman was signed on a six-month contract this week, after turning down a new deal with Limerick.

"There are a lot of players around England who go through the motions," O'Flynn told BBC Radio Northampton.

"I've been given a six-month contract which is basically a six-month trial, so I'll be doing my best to score goals here and get an extension."

The former Wimbledon youngster added: "I'm confident in my own ability.

"I spent time at Cork City and Derry City where we had European football so I've had experience of playing at a decent level.

"If I get the chances and my fitness is up to scratch then I'm sure things will go well.

"Every footballer wants to play at the highest level possible. This gives me an opportunity to take a step in that direction."
