Guinan nearly joined Town 10 years ago when he was at Nottingham Forest
Northampton Town have made their first summer signing by capturing experienced striker Steve Guinan from Hereford.
The 33-year-old scored 15 goals for Hereford, who were relegated from League One alongside the Cobblers.
"I wouldn't have come to Northampton if I didn't think the club had a good chance of getting back up," Guinan told BBC Radio Northampton.
"He's an experienced man who knows how to get us out of this division," said Cobblers manager Stuart Gray.
Guinan, who has also had spells at Cheltenham and Plymouth, was named player of the season at Edgar Street this season.
However, he turned down the chance to become player-coach with the Bulls this summer.
"I scored quite a lot of goals in a team that did get relegated," added Guinan.
"In my two last full seasons in League Two I have had two promotions with Cheltenham through the play-off final and with Hereford so I know what League Two is all about."
