Gray counts the cost of call-off

Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray admitted his frustration after seeing Tuesday's League One derby against MK Dons abandoned at half-time.

Referee Keith Stroud called the game off because the pitch at Sixfields had become waterlogged in heavy rain.

It means defender Chris Doig and striker Adebayo Akinfenwa will both have their suspensions carried forward for another match.

"We wanted to get this one out of the way," said Gray.

"It's disappointing because in the 45 minutes played we had a couple more bookings, and Ryan Gilligan picked up an injury that could make him doubtful for the weekend.

"We were hoping that after this game Chris would come back into play for Saturday and Adebayo would use up another match of his ban.

"But that hasn't happened and it's very disappointing," he added.

Akinfenwa had his three-match suspension - imposed following a red card at Brighton - increased to four games after the Football Association deemed Northampton's appeal to be frivolous.

Fans who attended the truncated match are being urged to keep their ticket stubs safe as the two clubs look to re-arrange the fixture.
