Northampton Town have lost an appeal against Adebayo Akinfenwa's red card at Brighton and the Football Association has banned him for one extra game.
The Cobblers striker was dismissed - along with the Seagulls' Adam Virgo - following a clash in the 65th minute of Tuesday's 1-1 draw.
Northampton appealed after watching a video of the sending-off incident.
The FA dismissed the appeal and handed Akinfenwa an extra one-match suspension as they deemed the appeal frivolous.
"We are very disappointed with the decision," said a Northampton spokesman.
"As a club, we have a proud record of respect for referees and have not contested a red card for some considerable time.
"Given the extra game ban, the club will have to seriously consider whether the appeals system is worth considering for future incidents."
Akinfenwa will miss the matches against Cheltenham, MK Dons, Tranmere and Millwall before returning for the derby at Peterborough on 14 March.
